He is an American philosopher, teacher, and writer. An excellent reference piece for all college students and very inexpensive. A lot of what is said is common sense, even to people who aren’t familiar with more formal argumentation at all. I wish fot people on facebook with whom I have nonsensical political and religious arguments would read this. I can understand trying to make a book relevant with current examples, but if an author is going to attempt that, they should try a lot harder to avoid bias and, at the very least, leave out their own personal opinions about things; instead this author presents many of them as fact.

Argument here does not refer to the equivalent of a verbal fistfight. This could be effective for a class or prolonged study of this material, but I’m not sure I would recommend it beyond a high school level and, at the same time, I’m not sure I would recommend it to high school students either because of the content of some of the examples – one of which is about having sex in space.

Chapter I offers general rules for I’ve tried to find a book that does include them and this was, in the end, the most likely foe to cover this topic, so I’m a tad disappointed.
